Wacken Open Air 2011: El festival de rock y metal más grande del mundo
Wacken Open Air es un festival que se celebra en el pequeño municipio de Wacken, cercano a la ciudad de Itzehoe. A unos 60 kilómetros de distancia, Hamburgo es tal vez la ciudad desde la cual se desplazan más metalheads, no sólo por ser una de las más grandes de Alemania sino por contar además con un aeropuerto internacional, entrada desde la cual miles de personas llegan habitualmente, y por el que no es extraño ver la ciudad llena de metaleros durante toda la semana.
De hecho, volviendo al pueblo de Wacken, su población es de tan sólo unas 2.000 personas, pero la semana del festival ésta llega a alcanzar las 80.000. El pueblo apenas consta de un puñado de calles, con sus casas y pequeñas tiendas, que dicho sea de paso, hace literalmente su agosto estos días. El festival se localiza en torno a una gran zona verde ideal para acampar. Es muy importante, antes de partir, tener muy bien preparado el itinerario y saber dónde se encuentra cada zona. Es importante no perderse, porque incluso una vez que ya te encuentras allí, el sitio es tan grande que desviarte de tu camino puede costarte unas buenas caminatas para encontrar tu tienda.
El clima es algo peculiar. Sólo puedo hablar por este año, pero puedo deciros que tan pronto estas asándote de calor que muriéndote de frio. En ésta 22 edición el sol no fue un punto a destacar, y la mayor parte del tiempo éste era visible a través de las nubes. Eso sí, cuando sus rayos se colaban entre ellas, el terreno se convertía en un hervidero. Minutos más tarde, al desaparecer, sentías que necesitabas, tal vez, visitar el stand de merchandising para hacerte con una sudadera de manga larga. Uno de los lemas del festival es rain or shine, llueva o luzca el sol. La lluvia destacó este año, con algunos chaparrones importantes, especialmente la noche del sábado, que hizo que unos cuantos se pensaran ir a ver algunos conciertos.
Tras comentar las peculiaridades y características principales de Wacken Open Air, me gustaría hacer una pequeña reflexión y dar mi opinión sobre el que es el festival de metal más grande del mundo. Es precisamente éste hecho el que puede hacer Wacken algo realmente duro para gente que esté acostumbrada a festivales más pequeños. El hecho de tener una media de 70.000 asistentes por año propicia no sólo largas colas para ver los conciertos o adquirir merchandising y bebida, sino que las zonas de acampada pueden estar realmente lejos del centro del festival. Esto hará que sea indispensable tener bien planificadas las bandas de las que queremos disfrutar, y tener un buen mapa del sitio. En la página web se pueden descargar fácilmente todo tipo de planos e información, y es un buen punto de partida de cara a no llevarnos sorpresas.
¿Y en cuanto a nuestro presupuesto personal? Bueno, no sabría deciros, pero las bebidas sin llegar a ser exageradamente caras, sí que están algo elevadas de precio. De la comida se podría decir lo mismo, y seguramente queráis pasaros por el llamado Metal Market, una zona donde encontraréis todo tipo de merchandising y objetos normalmente asociados con este estilo de música, como cuernos para beber, cinturones de todos los tipos, etc. Si os habéis quedado cortos de presupuesto, no os preocupéis, con un poco de paciencia —a mí me tomó más de 1 hora de cola— podréis acudir a la zona de los cajeros automáticos, donde podréis sacar dinero cómodamente.
En la próxima entrega os contaré como se desarrollaron los 3 días principales, y las bandas que destacaron en ésta vigesimosegunda edición.

The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
